Introduction

Germany is the largest national economy in Europe & third largest by nominal GDP in the world. The export of goods "Made in Germany" is one of the main factors of the country's wealth. Germany is often called Das Land der Dichter und Denker (the land of poets and thinkers). German culture began long before the rise of Germany as a nation-state and spanned the entire German-speaking world. From its roots, culture in Germany has been shaped by major intellectual and popular currents in Europe, both religious and secular.

First times I've been in Germany it was only on transit, stoping in Frankfurt am Main airport. It was finally in May of 2006 that we got to go deep into the german territory, travelling from Rostock to Berlin, ending with a complete visit of the latter.

Berlin16 May 2006

Capital of Germany and symbol of the communits fall in 1989, Berlin is a contemporary city with accents of pre-war architecture. Spent a whole day by walking around leisurely, or taking the tour bus and thus connecting all the major attractions.

The highlight of the day was our very special lunch in one of the fanciest hotels overlooking Brandenburg Gate, our dish being the famous german duck.

Frankfurt am Main ~ transit9 August 2000June, August 2004

Boasting to have the largest airport in the world, Frankfurt is a home to the german airline Lufthansa. Stopped there on my way to Canada in August 2000, then again two times in 2004 with Brittany.

Situated on the Main river, Frankfurt is the financial and transportation center of Germany. Frankfurt is the place of residence of the European Central Bank, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and is one of the two largest financial centres in continental Europe.

Rostock / Warnemünde ~ transit16 May 2006

We docked in Warnemunde, hopped on a train and transited Rostock on our way to Berlin. Luckly, the railway crossed through the city, so we could get a close glimpse of it.

Rostock is the largest city in the north German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Rostock is located on the Warnow river and the quarter of Warnemunde 12 km north of the city centre lies on the coast of Baltic Sea.
